Natural Treatments
|
|
This page highlights
the main natural treatment approaches:
|
|
Treatment Overview
|
All treatments are prescribed on an individual basis
following a confidential consultation lasting approximately 45 minutes,
during which a full case history is taken. The main treatments are herbal
and homeopathic medicines, vitamin and mineral therapy, and nutritional and
dietary programmes. Other natural treatments may be used or recommended,
such as remedial exercise and hydrotherapy. Many of the herbal treatments
have been developed over 25 years and are not available anywhere else.

Herbal Medicine
|
Herbal medicines are prescribed for a wide variety of
diseases and they are effective and non-toxic. Correct dosages and
combinations of remedies are the key to successful prescribing. Training in
herbal medicine for membership of the National Institute of Medical
Herbalists is rigorous and involves taking a university degree course.
Herbs contain vitamins, minerals, hormones, enzymes and trace elements as
well as natural antibiotics, antiseptics, and healing and soothing
substances. Among conditions frequently treated are joint and muscle
disease, gastrointestinal disorders, skin diseases, heart and circulatory
problems, menstrual and menopausal symptoms, respiratory diseases, nervous
conditions, including panic attacks, and allergies. Due to advances in herbal
medicine and nutritional research it is now possible to help people with
some serious illnesses. Even when it is not possible to cure it is often
possible to alleviate distressing symptoms.

|
Prevention
|
One of the major aims of this practice is the prevention of
disease and this can be achieved by attending for regular check-ups,
treatments and advice i.e. for blood pressure and other common conditions.
It is recommended that men over 50 have a regular screening test for
prostate cancer every year.

Naturopathy
|
Naturopaths are trained in all aspects of natural healing.
Admission to membership of the British Naturopathic Association follows a full-time
college course, or specialised postgraduate training. In many parts of the
United States naturopaths are part of the primary care health system. The
naturopathic doctor always seeks to discover and remove the basic cause of
disease by following a system based on an understanding of natural laws.
Naturopathic medicine aids the body’s inherent ability to heal itself
through its internal vitality and intelligence. Disease is seen as a
manifestation of the body’s vital force in attempting to remove obstructions
to normal functioning of organs and tissues. The naturopathic treatment
approaches in this practice include fasting and detoxification;
hydrotherapy, gentle manipulation, and nutritional programmes.

Pain Relief
|
Ultrasound, interferential and G5, coupled with massage and
soft tissue manipulation -- provides an effective method of pain relief for
muscular and joint problems, such as low back pain, frozen shoulder, tennis
elbow, painful knees, arthritic conditions and sports injuries.
|
|
Homeopathy
|
At least 100 different homeopathic medicines are kept in
stock in the dispensary. Health insurance may cover the cost of a
homeopathic consultation and medicine. Please ask for details. Many
conditions respond well to homeopathic medicines, which involves giving in
dilution, a remedy that, in a larger dose, would cause symptoms similar to
the disease.

Health Screening
|
Conventional blood and urine tests are among those carried
out routinely, if required. These help in the diagnosis of illnesses that
may have been overlooked by other practitioners, or where there is
diagnostic uncertainty. In addition the practice offers hair analysis (to
establish nutritional status and to identify toxic elements i.e. lead,
cadmium and mercury) plus food intolerance tests via a blood sample. A
great number of other non-invasive tests i.e. detoxification, menopause,
osteoporosis, hormone profiles, cholesterol can be obtained from salivary
samples, stool samples, or from pinprick tests. Providing samples for these
tests may also be done at home from kits supplied. Samples are sent to a
number of specialist laboratories. However, patients visiting or living in
London can have tests undertaken at a comfortable walk-in centre in the
Harley Street area.

Food State Vitamins and Minerals
|
A wide range of Food State vitamins and minerals is
available from the dispensary. These nutrients are superior to standard
nutrients as they provide vitamins and minerals that are as close to food
as possible. They are very well absorbed and may be taken on a continuing
daily basis. The naturally higher absorption means that lower doses can be
taken to achieve the same therapeutic effect. This is in contrast to most
over-the-counter nutrients (from both chemists and health stores), which
are poorly-absorbed chemical compounds i.e. ferrous sulphate, calcium
carbonate etc. requiring high doses to be taken with food (and if the wrong
food is taken the absorption is practically nil). Food State vitamins and
minerals do not contain genetically modified materials. They are also free
from sugar, milk products, wheat, gluten, artificial colours, flavours,
preservatives and live yeast. Filtered water is used in the manufacturing
process. They are suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.
